Movie Madness: Conviction

With summer movie season getting underway, I thought I'd devote a week to Brad's great ideas for screenplays. Actually, I'm just giving myself a little break from the normal odd news item format. I hope you like it. If not, don't worry, I'll be back to bizarre news tidbits next week.

In hindsight, this idea wasn't so much worse than that movie where they uglied up Charlize Theron and Christina Ricci (Monster), but I don't think that one was pitched as a romance with a happy ending.

The movie concept in this clip is the intellectual property of David Stratton, all rights reserved. I feel I have so say that because no matter how bad the idea, some producer is going to think, "I could make that work."

Oops, I left out the best part. While still in prison, the ACLU helps them adopt a spunky, precocious little boy who comes to live with them in their cell. First he is angry and confused about why he's in jail, but then he comes to love his two mommies.

Sadly, they have to leave him behind when they escape. He's asleep when the crawl down the tunnel, so they leave him a nice note. When he wakes up and reads it, he's so happy for them he does his cute happy dance.

Hahaha, great movie plot. But not all Evangelicals hate gay/gay marriage. I actually liked the 'finds Jesus' bit.

Sorry dude. But not only there's been 'Monster' & 'Thelma & Louise', but there's also the French movie 'Base Moi' who had a similar plot.

Maybe you should git it a twist that since they find Jesus, they interpret Communion as cannibalism; although that isn't very original either.

Jeremy, you're right, not all Evangelicals would be angered by the gay characters. But even those that aren't would probably be disturbed by the graphic killing and dismembering. That would probably take it out of the "feel-good" movie category. But maybe that's just me. Are Evangelicals big fans of the Saw franchise?

Red, the movies you describe involve two women who become murderous as a result of rape (or attempted rape). Brad's heroes killed - and dismembered - their HUSBANDS. It's probably the unprovoked dismembering, not their gayness, that would get in the way of the audience sympathy necessary to make a romance work.

By the way, Brad's ideas aren't intended to be creative and original -- they are just supposed to be laughably flawed in some way. Didn't think I'd have to explain that.

Brad has even "better" ideas coming the rest of the week, though they won't be at all "original." Watch for his "underdog in the championship" movie pitch.

"[...]Brad's heroes killed - and dismembered - their HUSBANDS"Ok, so how about this:

The heroines are 2 teenage Afghan girls who were constantly raped by their husbands —After all, Kharzai did include that tiny change in the Constitution allowing husbands to abuse of their spouses.

And considering the huge success of "Slumdog Millionaire", to include some exotic eastern locaiton would guarantee more revenue at the box office :-P

Yeah, that might actually work. I might want to go see that movie. But I'm not really interested in helping Brad come up with watchable concepts. I'd rather laugh at his hopelessly doomed ideas.
