There are rumors, you know, that Bill Richardson has a drinking problem. Not that he actually does, but I'm just sayin'. That would sorta make this story make sense, no?
The spaceport looks like the alien ship from James Cameron's The Abyss, which is kind of weird since in that movie the ship was... well, at the Abyss!
But I really think the spaceport is a good idea. After all, where else are the aliens going to land, at George Bush's ranch in Texas? Do we really want as a species to be judged based on that particular specimen??
